The 2008 Beijing Olympic Closing Ceremony will be held in the Beijing National Stadium (The Bird’s Nest) from 20:00 to 23:00 on August 24, 2008. The opening ceremony was splendid and received glorification from media at home and abroad. We have a good reason to expect a spectacular closing ceremony on 24 August.
Unlike the highly confidential opening ceremony before the real show, press release some details about the closing ceremony.
Famous Chinese soprano Song Zuying and Spanish tenor Placido Domingo will sing the theme song of the closing ceremony together. The Chinese Kungfu show by 199 young Shaolin monks will be an important episode during on Sunday night. The closing ceremony will be another “fireworks feast” for the Beijingers and all the audiences who watch the show on TV.
London, as the successor to Beijing, has prepared an eight-minute performance presented by the Royal Opera House, Zoo Nation Dance Company and the Candoco Dance Company on Sunday night.
Olympic flame will be extinguished and the Olympic Flag will be handed over to London at the closing ceremony on 24 August. Prime Minister of UK Gordon Brown, London Mayor Boris Johnson, singer Leona Lewis, football star David Beckham will represent London at Sunday’s closing ceremony in Beijing.
To celebrate the success of 2008 Beijing Olympic, Royal Mail of UK and China Post will jointly issue A special set of four stamps to mark Olympics handover on August 24.

Cheng Fei 程菲 and her teammates won gold medal at the Gymnastics (Artistic) Women’s team final of Beijing Olympics on Wednesday, August 13, edging the world champion US team into second place. This is also the first gold for China’s women’s gymnastics team in history of the Olympic Games.
Cheng Fei fell off the balance beam and received just 15.15 points in the second round. But this incidence did not influence her much, and she performed very well continually. At the end, the Chinese team scored 188.9 points. The US women’s gymnastics team scored 186.9 points, who took silver medal.
Cheng Fei started gymnastics at the age of 3, and by the age of 10, she joined the Hubei provincial team. In 2001, 13 years old Cheng Fei was accepted to the China national women’s gymnastics team. The extremely difficult and eye-catching “Cheng Fei Maneuver“, a 180 degree back flip with a 540 degree forward flip was named after Cheng Fei at the 2005 World Championships. Cheng Fei won three golds at the 2006 World Championships in Denmark.

The National Aquatics Centre also known as “Water Cube” is the second most attractive architecture in Olympic Green, just after the Bird’s Nest. To be frankly, it does not look very pretty at daytime (due to the poor air quality of Beijing). However, the blue-colored “Water Cube” is a gorgeous piece of work at night.
This cutting-edge building was very environment friendly. The 100,000 square meters of ETFE (Ethylene Tetrafluoroethylene) air cushions that make up the building’s bubble cladding allow in more solar heat than glass, resulting in a 30% reduction in energy costs. It has a high efficient water recycling system as well. The venue can save 140,000 tons of recycled water annually.
The Water Cube was built to last. Tests have proven that this eye catching membrane structure of the “Water Cube” can survive 100 years in the extreme weather condition of Beijing.
