Olympics 2008 Monkey Movie
BBC introduced a cartoon video - “Olympics 2008 Monkey Movie” - for the coming 2008 Beijing Olympic. This short clip caused a wide spread discussion among Chinese netizens and the attention of main stream media. Because many Chinese viewers think Sunwukong (Monkey King), Zhubajie (Pig) and Shaseng (Sandy) ’s appearances are kind of ugly in this film. Even Guānyīn (Bodhisattva) in this video looks like a young western girl (Britney Spears?), rather than a kindly and compassionately mother-goddess as regarded in Chinese culture.
BBC, thanks for the goodwill! But before making this video, you should consult the director of Kongfu Panada which is extremely popular in China now.
Anyway, it’s a good animation. What we concern about is just the characters’ appearances.
