Club MIX Beijing @ Sanlitun

Published by Eddy under Other

Located inside Worker’s Stadium North Gate, Mix Club is the place to party hard in Beijing. You will easily find people from variable countries in there. After hip-hop hit Beijing, this very popular dance club quickly threw its hat into the clubbing ring, gobbling up adjacent venues while gathering a loyal following with its consistent hip-hop phat beats. Weekends are the best place for Hip-hop. The inside, built in a sense of postmodernism, will make you feel like in a modern, elite heaven.

The Style of Fashionable decoration makes you feel like in an absolute North American hot nightclub. Like the name, the people are from anywhere. Not mention all the beautiful people in Beijing are here. The overlook of Mix is more like “Arena” in L.A., or “Ten15″ in San Francisco. Don’t miss this one because it is the best party scene in Beijing. The 2-floor modern design nightclub is equipped with high quality sound system and lighting.

The areas are separated well, you can easily find a private chat corner; or to burst into a dance with all others; or even treat yourself a dish of French or Italian food on the second floor, being pleased by observing those dancers below.

Seating: 300 guests
Hours: 8:00p.m.- 2:00a.m.
Parking Space: Available
Special Drinks: CHIVAS Package

Er Guo Tou - Strong Beijing Local Liquor

Published by Eddy under Other

Er Guo Tou (二锅头) is the most famous Chinese white liquor in Beijing. Actually, Beijing is the original production place of this kind of strong distilled liquor (40% to 60% alcohol by volume!).

Literally Er Guo Tou means “head of the second pot”. It is made from sorghum. The sorghum is ground up and then boiled. The first batch has over 70 percent alcohol and is discarded. After a few days the grain is boiled again and this batch is called Er Guo Tou. The sorghum is then left to ferment in deep pits in the ground for several days, then distilled and blended. It includes the flavors of walnuts, longans, western ginseng and sugar. Er Guo Tou can be made in six months. But the better tasting ones are those that are aged for over 10 years – even up to a century.

Er Guo Tou is considered cheap alcohol in China. Er Guo Tou tastes sweet at first but then you start to feel the burn in your stomach. We do not suggest you drink it alone, especcially for those who try Er Guo Tou the first time. It is great with the right dishes such as the “hot pot” in winter.

The history of Er Guo Tou goes back 800 years ago when it used to be called Shao Jiu. The two best known brands are “Red Star Er Guo Tou” (红星二锅头) and “Niu Lan Shan Er Guo Tou”(牛栏山二锅头). Nowadays, Er Guo Tou is not only a strong white liquor, but also a symbolic icon of Beijing local culture.

Capital Museum of Beijing

Published by Eddy under Other

capital museum beijing

Located in No. 16 Fuxingmenwai Street, the newly refurbished 1.23 billion yuan (US$180 million) Capital Museum opened to the public in 2005 after four years’ construction. The Capital Museum is a five-storey building allowing for a maximum of 13 concurrent exhibitions, which can be viewed in about 5 hours, and the new venue can accommodate 2,000 visitors daily. With a total floor space of 66,690 square meters, it is second only to China National Museum in terms of size.

Formerly housed in the Confucius Temple on Guozijian Road, the Capital museum was founded as early as 1981, but because of its inconvenient location within the ancient temple, it functioned primarily as a warehouse of relics.

There is no other place like the new Capital Museum of Beijing where people can see how life was in ancient times in Beijing. It houses more than 200,000 cultural relics, recording the 500,000-year human history of Beijing, the city’s 3,000-year history and its eight centuries as the capital of China.

The new museum also features a cultural and museum activity area for the public. Planned activities include pottery making, a presentation showing how relics are repaired and preserved, Chinese ink rubbing, and face-painting Peking Opera style.

It will eventually offer an English language city museum map and currently offers English-language museum brochures. Some information will be provided in Japanese. It also features other useful services such as a free cloak desk and a well-stocked museum shop.

    Supermarket in Beijing

    Published by Eddy under Other

Modern Chinese supermarkets are organized much in the same way as their Western counterparts. Actually, the most famous one in Beijing is Carrefour which is a French chain. The top three supermarket chains in Beijing are Carrefour, Hualian, and Wu-Mart.

Supermarkets in Beijing offer all kinds of goods such as meet, fresh fruits and vegetables, fresh seafood, snacks, dried and canned food, bread, dairy products, instant noodles, dumplings, food box, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages and household articles. The goods are usually beautifully presented and of excellent quality. Also the cashier system is well organized and efficient. However, it is usually very crowded at the check out particularly during weekend.

    Voltage in China

    Published by Eddy under Other

The frequency of electric current is 50 Hertz in China. The voltage in mainland China is 220 Volt, which is different from North America (110V), and Japan (100V). (Hong Kong is 200V/220V and Taiwan is 110V). Chinese electrical plugs have two or three pins. They fit into North American outlets. Chinese power outlets are identical to ungrounded (2-pin) North American outlets.

Most star rated hotels have built-in convectors in bathrooms for shaving, hair dryers, etc. But for your convenience, a portable voltage converter will be very helpful if you want to operate your devices that do not accept 220 Volts at 50 Hertz. North American equipment will not work or even get damaged in China without an adapter.
