Beijing CBD

Published by admin under Other

The Beijing Central Business District (CBD) was approved by the State Council of China in 1993 as a essential part of the Beijing Urban Master Plan from 1991 to 2010. After 15 years immense development, the CBD area of Beijing has become the primary district of finance and business. It is home to more than 6,000 multinational corporations, including more than 120 Fortune500 companies. Actually, more than 70% of foreign related companies in Beijing are concentrated in the CBD and surrounding area. Except Russia and Luxemburg, all the other foreign embassies in China are located in the CBD as well.

Geographically situated to the east of the city center, this 3.99 sqm area is bounded by Chaoyang Lu on its north, the Tonghui River on the south,Xi Dawang Lu on the east, and Dongdaqiao Lu on the west. Traffic jam is a major drawback of the CBD area, however we will see some postive change in the near future. An underground channel networks will connect at least seven landmark buildings together. Beijing CBD will be linked to other parts of the city by at least four subway lines in the future. Passing through Jingguang Centre, Fortune City, China World Trade Center, the newly opened subway line 10 has greatly eased the traffic problem already. And CBD and Zhongguancun - China’s Silicon Valley have been finally connected by subway line 10 as well.

Major Attractions in CBD

To be frankly, there are not much to see in the CBD area of Beijing. Although it is very close to the Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven and Tiananmen Square, the CBD itself is a pure business zone. If we have to name one attraction in this area, we will say the “Silk Market” (Xiu Shui Shi Chang).  This is the most popular market among foreign travellers. You can find silk products, shoes, and bags etc on this “Silk Street”. Many of the vendors here are multilingual, and please do not hesitate to bargain with them if you want a good deal.
